The fifth annual Scholarships Fair 2009 will take place on 21 October  2009 at Zagreb’s National and University Library. Deputy Head of Mission, Chris Hodge, and staff from the British Embassy in Zagreb and the British Council will provide the next generation of Chevening scholars with information about the prestigious scholarships offered by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in this and the academic year 2010/11.

The graduate and research scholarships being offered in the United Kingdom cover a range of subjects such as Economics, Finances, EU Studies and Environmental Protection, in the most well-respected British institutions, such as Cambridge, Oxford, University College London and Imperial College—all top 10 world universities.

This year, the Fair will prove particularly interesting to university students and graduates considering furthering their education in the United Kingdome due to the presence of more than 20 representatives of the Chevening Alumni Croatia – all people who have been awarded Chevening scholarships and studied in the UK. These former scholars will be available to discuss their own experiences with British universities—from the application and interview process, to relations with professors and students from other parts of the world, to the positive impacts that their British educations have had on their respective careers upon their return to Croatia. 

The newly-formed Chevening Alumni Croatia association already has more than 70 members and will continue to grow both in number and influence over the coming years. It is important to note that many Chevening Alumni hold senior and responsible positions in Croatia’s public and private institutions.

A roundtable on ‘Improving academic mobility in Croatia’, organised by the Institute, will be moderated by Ms. Karin Doolan.
