Marylebone Cricket Club comes to Vis
To further develop and promote the game of cricket in Croatia, one of Croatia's cricket clubs, the Sir William Hoste Cricket Club, hosted the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) from England, one of the most famous cricket clubs in history, on the island of Vis from 3-7 August. A number of matches against the Croatian national team and a coaching session were held during the week.
'Few people know that our club is named after Sir William Hoste, a hero of Lord Nelson's navy, who introduced cricket to the island some 200 years ago', said Oliver Roki, the founder of the Sir William Hoste Cricket Club on Vis.
Participation at the events on the island by the MCC can be viewed as acknowledgement for the fine work in developing cricket that has been done in Croatia.
The MCC, which was founded in 1787 in London, is dedicated to the development of cricket around the world and will embark on four tours this year, all organised in co-operation with the ICC. Croatia is the host of one of those tours.

The Sir William Hoste Cricket Club won a grant from the European Cricket Council (ECC) a few years ago and now has a proper cricket field.
