Terry Fox Run

Member of British Embassy selling cakes at Terry Fox Run

On Sunday colleagues from the British Embassy in Zagreb, Croatia, took part in the annual Terry Fox Run. These events raise funds all over the world for cancer treatment and research, inspired by the example of a young Canadian who attempted to run from coast to coast in his homeland. Terry tragically died before he could achieve his goal, but in his memory charity runs are held in dozens of countries (www.terryfoxrun.org).

The Embassy team decided to contribute by baking cakes, muffins, brownies and other goodies, to be sold on the day. Lots of staff came along to help out, with facepainting and other games for the kids making it a fun day out. They were very pleased to be joined on the day by the family of Željko Milić, Žac, a much-missed colleague who passed away from cancer earlier this year. The stall proved one of the most popular there, with a constant queue of customers. In all, it raised more than 2,000 kuna (about £250), helping the organisers towards their target of 1 million kuna. Many staff also took part in the run itself, either jogging or cycling the 6.5 km course around Lake Jarun.
