History of the Embassy

Britain and Croatia established diplomatic relations on 25 June 1992. When they did so, the existing British consulate in Ilica 12, central Zagreb, became the British Embassy. It was housed in the building that is now the home of the British Council. The embassy moved from there to the Hotel Dubrovnik and then to the Cibona Tower. From 1994, it was based in 121 Vlaška where it remained until late 2002.

In September 2002, the British Embassy moved to a new building, Ivana Lučića 4, that had been designed and commissioned especially for the purpose. Good design was one of the key criteria for the new building, and the final result reflects this.

The current Ambassador David Graeme Blunt is the sixth British Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia since diplomatic relations were established. His predecessors were Brian Sparrow, Gavin Hewitt, Colin Munro, Nicholas Jarrold and Sir John Ramsden.

Diplomatic relations have been cemented by a series of visits in recent years.
