British Embassy and Croatian Ministry hold joint Anti-corruption workshop

The British Embassy in Zagreb and the Croatian Justice Ministry jointly organised a workshop on inter-agency cooperation, implementation and monitoring of anti-corruption programmes, on 27 October in Zagreb.

The workshop, attended by members of the non-governmental sector, the Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime and the State Attorney's Office, also focused on the establishment of institutional mechanisms for inter-agency cooperation, on those agencies responsible for the implementation of anti-corruption legislation and strategies, and on the role of the non-governmental sector and media in the implementation and monitoring of anti-corruption programmes.

In his address, HMA David Blunt stated that the United Kingdom strongly supported Croatia's integration into the European Union and that it was ready to help in Croatia's fight against corruption.

Croatian Justice Minister Ivan Šimonović said that the fight against corruption had been raised to the highest possible level, which was proven when Prime Minister Kosor agreed to chair a new commission monitoring the implementation of anti-corruption measures.

Participants also heard from foreign anti-corruption experts, such as Bulgaria's Constatine Palicarsky, Latvia's Aleksejs Loskustovs and Slovenia's Roman Prah.
